We are Fatshark

We are a critically acclaimed Swedish game development studio with about 190 experienced and skilled employees. We are most well-known for developing the Warhammer: Vermintide franchise, but have also helped develop a number of AAA titles and we launched the highly anticipated game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

We have grown quite a bit over the last few years, but we still embrace the same values that we started with. We want to build the best first person co-op games together, in an approachable, fun and passion-driven way.

The role

Are you an experienced game designer with a passion for crafting engaging combat systems? We’re looking for a talented Combat Game Designer to join our team, expand our knowledge, and contribute to the development of our unannounced project.

Fatshark is renowned for creating leading first-person melee combat experiences. This is a 12-month temporary contract, working onsite at our office in Stockholm.

What you'll do

  • Design and Evolve: Refine core combat systems and enemy behavior to align with the game vision

  • Collaborate and Create: Work closely with the team to develop new enemies that enhance the gameplay experience

  • Balance and Tweak: Maintain a keen understanding of the game's meta to balance and adjust combat systems and scenarios to create an engaging player experience

Required qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a professional Game Designer

  • Previous experience with enemy design

  • Experience working on first-person games

  • Strong scripting knowledge

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills

Bonus qualifications

  • Shipped at least one AAA or equivalent game

  • Deep knowledge of multiplayer/cooperative/RPG games

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5 and its Gameplay Ability System

  • Experience working with AI frameworks (e.g. Behavior Trees, GOAP, State Machines)

  • Familiarity with Vermintide and Darktide and their core mechanics
