Lead Design Engineer at Samsara

The role

As a Lead Design Engineer, you will build the systems that power Samsara's products and scale the design team's impact. You will work across design and code to define components, tokens, and guidelines for both human and AI-driven development.

What you'll do

• Develop core system components and feedback loops to harden AI design generation
• Govern design quality through structure to ensure high quality output for customers
• Translate system decisions into performant and maintainable code across web and mobile
• Integrate accessibility and responsiveness into the design system by default
• Establish governance and deprecation models that balance speed with system integrity
• Collaborate with designers and engineers to incorporate feedback and usage data

What you'll bring

• Eight or more years of experience in design engineering or front-end development
• Portfolio demonstrating shipped design systems or component library work
• Strong interaction and visual design skills with expert judgment
• Proficiency with design tokens theming and accessibility standards
• Experience using and debugging AI tools within a regular design practice

Your impact

Your work will directly shape how quickly teams can build and how reliably products behave for customers in critical physical industries. By codifying principles and heuristics, you will ensure high-quality AI generation and digital transformation at scale.
