Design engineer (UK) at writer

The role

Design Engineers at WRITER sit at the intersection of design and engineering to own and maintain the Writer Design System. You will ensure the UI library is optimized for both human developers and AI agents to build high-quality product surfaces.

What you'll do

• Own and maintain the Writer Design System for human and AI users
• Build production-quality UI components from initial sketch to final shipping
• Implement design-led polish including micro-interactions and brand-specific motion
• Architect new primitives and maintain synchronization across Figma and Storybook
• Uphold high standards for accessibility and front-end craft across the organization
• Partner with cross-functional leads to drive and measure design system adoption

What you'll bring

• Four or more years of experience with TypeScript and React in production
• Expert proficiency in Figma including auto-layout and code connect features
• Strong background in web animation using Framer Motion or GSAP
• Proven track record of driving design system adoption across engineering teams
• Experience building AI-specific product surfaces like streaming responses and agent states
