Design engineer (US) at writer

The role

As a Design Engineer at WRITER, you will sit at the intersection of design and engineering to own and maintain the Writer Design System. You will ensure the UI library is optimized for both human developers and AI agents to build high-quality, consistent products.

What you'll do

• Own and maintain the Writer Design System for both human and AI agent use
• Design and build production-quality UI components from initial sketch to final shipment
• Implement high-polish micro-interactions and brand moments that enhance product feel
• Architect new primitives and maintain synchronization between Figma and code libraries
• Uphold standards for accessibility, motion, and front-end consistency across the organization
• Partner with cross-functional leads to measure and drive design system adoption

What you'll bring

• At least four years of experience building production frontends with TypeScript and React
• Expert proficiency in Figma including auto-layout, variants, and code connect features
• Strong understanding of animation principles and web-based animation technologies
• Proven track record of owning and driving adoption of a shared design system
• Experience building AI product surfaces such as streaming responses and agent state UIs
