Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking a Display Optical Lead – Technical & Business Responsible (m/f/d) to join the User Experience Business Area – Display Technology Timisoara.

In this role, you are the project-level technical authority, operating at the intersection of display technology, optics, electronics, mechanics, quality, and supplier engineering. Your mission is to turn requirements into robust optical and technical solutions, with strong focus on display panels performance, as well as backlight and optical system development, securing supplier alignment while ensuring the right maturity and performance for Cluster, CID, and HUD applications.

You take full responsibility for the coordination and steering of display-related activities, including leading project-level alignment, driving task forces for critical topics, and ensuring end-to-end delivery across RFI, RFQ, development, and industrialization phases, aligned with customer expectations and business objectives.

Your tasks include:

  • Leading the technical concept and system architecture for display modules (panel, backlight, cover glass, optical bonding), including definition and optimization of the full optical path architecture.

  • Owning optical performance targets and characterization strategy (luminance, homogeneity, chromaticity, reflectance, visual appearance), including system-level optimization across LEDs, light conductor, diffuser, and BEF/DBEF stacks based on data-driven trade-offs.

  • Driving optical development, simulation, validation, and maturity progression, ensuring alignment from engineering samples to qualification readiness through measurement and modeling.

  • Steering end-to-end project execution, including coordination of cross-functional teams, leading display related task forces for critical topics or customer escalations, and managing timing, cost, quality, risks, documentation, and BOM-related changes.

  • Ensuring system integration and industrialization readiness, coordinating with electronics and mechanics teams regarding interfaces, constraints, manufacturability, and supporting ramp-up and series production.

  • Acting as the main technical interface toward customers and suppliers, managing technical alignment, defining and negotiating specifications and addendums, and ensuring feasibility and traceability across development and change cycles.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics/Optics, or similar, with solid experience in automotive display module development (TFT LCD and/or OLED).

  • Strong expertise in backlight and optical system development, including LED selection and binning, light conductor and lens design, and optical foil stack (diffuser, BEF, DBEF, reflective films) optimization.

  • Experience with optical simulation tools (e.g., LightTools, Zemax, Speos or similar) and ability to translate simulation results into practical design improvements.

  • Deep understanding of display performance parameters and system behavior, including translation into specifications, acceptance criteria, and maturity decisions in automotive environments.

  • Proven experience in supplier alignment and cross-functional coordination, including integration of optics, electronics, and mechanics in complex development projects.

  • Strong execution and leadership mindset: structured, ownership-driven working style, confident communication and negotiation skills, and ability to manage change requests, technical risks, and escalation topics.
