Research Scientist, Life Sciences (Large Molecules, Antibody Design) at anthropic

The role

Anthropic is seeking a Research Scientist with expertise in therapeutic antibodies to join its Life Sciences team in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role focuses on accelerating biological discovery by integrating AI-generated hypotheses with hands-on experimental research. You will drive antibody programs from target selection through IND-enabling studies to validate AI-designed candidates.

What you'll do

• Design and engineer therapeutic antibodies across various formats and engineering stages
• Define comprehensive screening cascades including binding kinetics and developability assays
• Plan the transition from lead optimization to IND-enabling pharmacology and toxicology studies
• Coordinate production and characterization studies with external contract research organizations
• Evaluate AI-designed antibodies and provide experimental feedback to research teams
• Maintain high-quality documentation of sequences protocols and experimental failure modes

What you'll bring

• PhD in biochemistry protein engineering or a related molecular biology field
• Proven experience taking at least one antibody through to IND-enabling studies
• Deep understanding of IND requirements including pharmacology and CMC processes
• Experience navigating ambiguity within a rapidly evolving research environment
• Strong ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional AI and biology teams
