How do you make our customers happy?
The Garage is where bol develops entirely new concepts. There are no playbooks or precedents. We ‘simply’ start with a blank floor and an intriguing problem. Right now, the question is: how do we give pre-owned products a home on bol that customers trust and value? As the Senior Product Designer, you own the answer. From the first customer interview to a tested, scalable experience. You conceptualize and design the entire journey, embedding trust and affordability in every UX choice. Your ambition: to prove that pre-loved can still generate love at first sight.
The biggest challenge
Designing a coherent pre-owned experience within a platform built for new products. The pay-off is real because you can greatly extend product lifespans, benefiting customers, partners, and planet. But the execution? Genuinely complex. You’re designing a separate environment while maximizing the reuse of existing bol capabilities. You’re communicating the variety of products, their condition, seller trust, etc., to customers who have no established mental model for pre-owned products on bol. And you’re doing it in a venture team where hypotheses out-number and outpace validated answers. Build too cautiously, and a solution will never reach its potential. Build too loosely, and you undermine the trust the proposition depends on. Can you traverse that tension?
What you will do as Senior Product Designer - The Garage
You’ll join a compact, cross-functional venture team: a Product Manager, an Engineering Man-ager, five Engineers, and you. No inherited backlog. No established patterns to follow. The Garage operates with startup energy and an enterprise-grade infrastructure - you get real cus-tomer access, real data, and the autonomy to shape propositions from discovery through vali-dated experience. Your first and primary challenge is the pre-owned proposition. You’ll own the end-to-end experience: entry points, storefront, list page, product detail page, offer presenta-tion, trust cues, and the flow into checkout. You’ll conduct research, build prototypes, test hy-potheses, and create clarity that helps the team make better decisions faster. Beyond pre-owned, you’ll strengthen our structural design capacity so future Garage endeavors start stronger. What that looks like in practice:
Research customer and partner needs, behaviors, and barriers to shape proposition and design direction Design the full pre-owned journey across all key touchpoints, from entry point to check-out Translate trust, affordability, and relevance into concrete experience choices, such as condition communication, seller information, and offer presentation Build prototypes and testable hypotheses that rapidly answer key proposition questions Facilitate workshops and design reviews that inspire alignment across the Garage team and adjacent stakeholders Support experimentation on offer grouping, trust signaling, and traffic entry points Deliver tested designs and clear experience direction that support launch and future scaling
Why you can make a difference
You’ve worked in product-led environments before and understand that design in a venture context means owning outcomes, not just outputs. You connect individual features into a co-herent end-to-end journey without losing sight of the customer problem. You’re comfortable running your own research, making calls on incomplete data, and gracefully pivoting when the evidence points elsewhere. You know when to research and when to prototype. When to align and when to scale. Experience with marketplace dynamics, pre-owned, recommerce, and/or trust design is valuable, but having developed propositions from scratch would be (y)our most valuable asset.

The Garage is bol’s internal incubator; a small, entrepreneurial team with the freedom to ex-plore new ideas for the core platform. You’ll work alongside product, engineering, and strategy colleagues in an environment that values rapid learning over perfect planning, and validated direction over polished decks. The pre-owned proposition is live and building, but you won’t be inheriting someone else’s vision; you’ll be establishing one.
