Design Engineer at cohere

The role

Cohere is seeking a Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design and production code by maintaining the Waypoint design system. You will take ownership of the Figma library while simultaneously shipping production-ready components and managing the design token pipeline.

What you'll do

• Evolve the Figma library including component structures and variants
• Build and maintain core component packages in the production codebase
• Manage the token pipeline to sync Figma styles with CSS and Tailwind
• Partner with product teams to translate new patterns into system components
• Develop automated workflows and tooling to connect design and code
• Write comprehensive documentation and usage guidance for system scaling

What you'll bring

• Professional fluency in both Figma design and software engineering
• Experience building or contributing to design-to-code sync tooling
• Familiarity with accessibility standards and WCAG compliance
• Experience packaging and versioning component libraries via npm
• Interest in how AI changes design system construction and usage
