The role

This Design Manager role at Turner & Townsend Heery involves overseeing medium to large sized school projects in Los Angeles. The position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing design activities for school upgrade and critical repair projects. This includes functioning as the lead design professional, ensuring quality review, and implementing policies and procedures.

What you'll do

• Plan, organize, and direct design activities for school upgrade and critical repair projects.
• Manage, develop, and coordinate the District’s design process for facilities.
• Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSD standards and guidelines.
• Manage multiple projects by interacting with architects, consultants, and District personnel.
• Establish and follow a process to identify and select suitable architectural firms for projects.
• Ensure all project steps are thoroughly documented and meet legal requirements.

What you'll bring

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience managing facilities design or capital projects is required.
• At least 5 years of this experience must be with educational facilities or similar public agencies.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from a recognized college or university is preferred.
• A valid Certificate of Registration as a California Architect or Professional Engineer is mandatory.
• Experience with the Division of State Architects (DSA) is preferred.
