Staff Product Design Engineer at Samsara

The role

The Staff Product Design Engineer leads the industrial design, architecture, and engineering of Samsara products from initial concept through mass production. This hybrid role based in San Francisco combines data-driven insights with hands-on customer research to build rugged hardware for the Connected Operations Cloud.

What you'll do

• Define multi-year technical visions and cross-functional hardware strategies for the platform
• Establish architectures and design solutions for hardware operating in rugged environments
• Drive system feature trade-offs and define product specifications with executive leadership
• Manage the full development lifecycle from engineering feasibility to mass production
• Validate product quality through rigorous testing and customer field analysis
• Own the complete customer hardware experience including industrial design and installation

What you'll bring

• Twelve or more years of experience shipping hardware programs at scale
• Proven record of launching electromechanical products into mass production
• Proficiency in plastic and metal part design using CAD modeling software
• Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• Ability to work onsite in San Francisco three days per week
