Job Description

Looking for a new adventure? You’ve come to the right place.

We're an Amsterdam-based team of 95+ (and counting) with 20+ nationalities amongst us! A varied bunch of “Citizens of The World” with a wide range of skills and hundreds of thousands of kilometers under our travel belts. And we have something important in common (other than our very well-worn passports): We want to change the way people travel.

And that's exactly what we're doing, with the travel app to plan, track, and relive trips in a smart and beautiful way.

Polarsteps has over 22 million users already, but, for us, this is just the beginning. We have big plans for the future, and so we need even more talented and enthusiastic people to help us on our journey.

Want to know more about us? Here you go.

Your expedition: Product Design at Polarsteps

We’re a small team, doing big things.

At Polarsteps, everyone, our CEO, support specialists, developers, product managers, and more, cares about design. It’s part of our DNA and embedded in every discussion. This gives you, as a Product Designer, the opportunity to make full use of your skills and craft your designs to perfection.

Our relatively small team consists of like-minded design enthusiasts who can geek out over the nitty-gritty details–corner radius, shadows, colors–for hours. We are big on collaboration, challenge each other, and make meetings as fun as they are productive. We dream big, move fast and welcome ideas, from anyone.

Your itinerary

What your journey at Polarsteps will look like on a typical day.

Lead the design of our "Digital Relive" team, focused on one of travel's most meaningful moments: looking back on it all. We're building new ways for travelers to relive their trips, both on the road and once they're home.

You will:

  • Be involved throughout the full lifecycle of our shareable trip formats - concepting, prototyping in motion, and iterating based on design reviews, user testing, and share-rate data

  • Use the existing design & brand guidelines while shaping new visual and motion language for shareable digital artefacts like Trip Reels and Map Video - and whatever we dream up next

  • Own your product pillar but won't work in a bubble-proactively ask for and share feedback, and show developers exactly what you mean through visual examples and motion prototypes

  • Work closely with Product Managers and developers to translate your motion and visual concepts into technical requirements, making sure they're built as intended - down to the last frame and pixel

The equipment in your backpack

What we’re hoping you’ll bring with you.

✅ Being a seasoned professional with 5+ years of experience designing lovable, visually-driven products

✅ A strong portfolio, with shipped work, that leans heavily visual: typography, motion, layout, and storytelling, not just UX flows

✅ Skills in design tools like Figma and prototyping tools Principle, or Protopie so that you turn a concept into a prototype developers can build from

✅ Hands-on craft with motion and video - experience with tools like After Effects and Premiere

✅ Enough UX/service-design sensibility to work with the data and flows already in the app, and a good instinct for what's worth surfacing and sharing

✅ Experience designing for native mobile apps

✅ A proactive mindset and the creativity to whip up visual examples that show, not just tell, developers how something should look and feel

✅ Comfortable working in an agile team environment that moves fast and iterates incrementally

Bonus points if you have:

✨ A feel for social - since what you design will often end up as something travellers share to Instagram, TikTok, or their stories, experience designing for or around social platforms is a real plus. Not a dealbreaker if that's not your world; it's something we're happy to grow together.

At Polarsteps, we believe the best products are built by people as diverse as the travelers using our apps! That's why we specifically encourage people underrepresented in the tech industry to apply for a role with us. Because we believe that diversity, be it age, race, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, or gender identity, makes both the world and the workplace better.
