Key Responsibilities

  • Manage balance and economy across progression, currencies, and monetization systems
  • Build models and simulations to forecast long-term economy health and inflation
  • Define sources, sinks, reward tables, and rarity curves for game resources
  • Balance combat mechanics including character stats, power curves, and progression gates
  • Analyze telemetry and cohort data to identify friction and power creep
  • Design LLM-powered workflows for automated modeling and configuration generation

Requirements Snapshot

  • At least five years of experience in game balance or economy design
  • Hands-on experience with mobile F2P mid-core titles and live operations
  • Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet modeling, statistics, and forecasting
  • Proven experience implementing LLMs and automated pipelines in production workflows
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable tuning recommendations

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Balance and Economy Designer to own the numbers underneath a large-scale mobile collection RPG.The studio is mid-sized, remote-first, and building a new mid-core F2P title. A game like this lives or dies on whether its progression, currencies and combat balance hold up over years of live operation. This role is where that responsibility sits. There is a second half to the job that most balance roles don’t have. The studio wants AI-assisted workflows built into how balancing actually gets done: modelling support, config generation, content validation, balance QA. Not experimenting with a chatbot, but pipelines with structured outputs and human review that the team can rely on. If you’ve already built something like that and want to do it properly, this is an unusual fit. If you haven’t yet, this probably isn’t the right role for you.

ResponsibilitiesOwn balance and economy across progression, currencies, rewards, resources, upgrades and monetisation systemsBuild models, forecasts and simulations to test pacing, inflation and long-term economy health before players find the problems for youDefine and tune sources and sinks, reward tables, rarity curves, upgrade costs, drop rates, offer values and difficultyBalance combat: character stats, power curves, encounters and progression gatesRead telemetry and cohort data to spot friction, exploits and power creepWork with game design, product, data, engineering, monetisation and live ops to turn goals into systems that can be measuredPlan experiments, read the results, and recommend tuning changes based on both the data and how the game feels to playKeep specs, balance documentation and configuration standards clear enough that other people can work from themDesign LLM-powered and automated workflows for modelling, validation, config generation, documentation and balance QA, with proper review and quality controls

RequirementsAt least 5+ years in game balance, economy design, systems design or something close to itHands-on experience with mobile F2P mid-core gamesYou’ve shipped a game or owned balance and economy in a live productA solid grasp of F2P economies, reward loops, live ops design and monetisationAdvanced spreadsheet modelling, and comfort with probability, statistics, forecasting and large config setsUsing player data and KPIs to form hypotheses and make practical tuning callsExplaining complex systems clearly to creative, technical and business people alikeReal experience using LLMs in production workflows, beyond chat-based helpYou’ve built automated pipelines with structured outputs, validation rules, reusable prompts and human-in-the-loop review

Backgrounds that fit particularly wellBalance or economy designers on collection RPGs, hero collectors, strategy RPGs or gacha games. The closest direct matchSystems designers who have worked on multi-currency economies with gear, crafting and character progressionDesigners who are comfortable in SQL, Python or R, BI tools or simulation frameworks, and would rather check an assumption than argue about itPeople who have supported live games through economy monitoring, event tuning, segmentation and A/B testingAnyone who has already built AI agents, retrieval-based setups, evaluation frameworks or orchestration tooling into a design workflow
