This Senior 3D Designer is the first specialist hire for asset authoring. You will define the production standards that a growing team of 3–4 junior designers will follow as we scale to thousands of digital variants.
Role OverviewAs the Senior 3D Designer you will own two interconnected tracks: hands-on asset creation for the most technically demanding charms, and the definition of the production ruleset that governs how all team members author assets
.A core part of this role is identifying the right balance between manual craftsmanship and automation. We want to semi-automate the pipeline wherever possible — your job is to find where that line sits, design the tooling or workflows to support it, and document the manual steps that still require a skilled eye. Your decisions will directly determine the quality ceiling and throughput of a pipeline that must eventually cover 1 000+ digital variant
s.Responsibilit
iesAsset Authoring• Create production-quality 3D assets in Blender, working from FBX source files provided by the team.• Author PBR assets ready for Three.js: mesh, Albedo, Normal, Roughness, Metallic, Opacity/Mask maps.• Configure the most complex jewellery charm types — including custom patterns, Murano glass, and other speciality finishes — setting the quality benchmark for the team.• Validate assets in the Three.js pilot environment together with the 3D Engineer to ensure visual fidelity and technical correctn
ess.Pipeline Definition & Semi-Automation• Analyse the end-to-end pipeline (FBX → Blender → Three.js) and identify which steps can be scripted, templated, or otherwise automated.• Define and document the asset creation ruleset: polygon budget (vertex count limits), required asset types per charm family, naming conventions, UV layout rules, and export settings.• Design foundation assets (e.g. tileable texture patterns, shared PBR base materials) that junior designers can reuse and extend without manual rework.• Build or specify Blender Python scripts and export presets that reduce repetitive manual steps for the widerteam.• Determine the optimal balance between quality and ease of configuration so assets look great in the Three.js viewer while remaining straightforward to set up.• Work closely with the 3D Engineer to keep the authoring-to-engine pipeline smooth, reproducible, and well-docume
nted.Team Enablement• Onboard and guide junior 3D designers so they can apply your rules independently and scale DV production.• Review and give feedback on junior-authored assets against the defined standards.• Continuously refine the ruleset and automation scripts based on production findings and engineering fee

Required Experience &
; SkillsTechnical• Expert-level Blender skills — this is non-negotiable: modelling, retopology, UV unwrapping, PBR texturing (Principled BSDF), baking high-to-low poly, scripting with Python, and render-ready FBX/glTF export.• Deep familiarity with Blender’s node-based material editor and non-destructive modifier stack for jewellery assets.• Strong understanding of real-time asset constraints for Three.js: polygon optimisation, texture atlasing, glTF/GLB export.• Hands-on experience authoring PBR maps (Albedo, Normal, Roughness, Metallic, Opacity/Masks) to production standard for a real-timerenderer.• Proven ability to reproduce complex material effects found in jewellery: gemstones, enamel, Murano glass, glitter, custom surfacepatterns.• Experience identifying and implementing pipeline automation — Blender Python scripting, export presets, or equivalent
tooling.Professional• Experience setting or enforcing asset standards in a multi-designer production environment.• Ability to communicate technical constraints clearly to both engineers and less experienceddesigners.• Highly organised with a systematic, documentation-first approach to pipeline work.• Portfolio demonstrating jewellery, luxury goods, or similarly detail-oriented product visualisation.
