Quick Summary

Role Overview

Cell Labs is seeking a 3D and Motion Designer to join their Berlin-based team building humanoid robotics. The role involves transforming complex engineering data into high-quality visual assets and animations that define the company's public brand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convert heavy mechanical CAD assemblies into clean 3D assets for real-time rendering
  • Create exploded views and assembly animations to explain complex mechanics
  • Develop realistic shaders for materials like aluminum carbon and glass
  • Design motion graphics including titles typography and interface animations
  • Edit and grade workshop footage combined with 3D work for various channels
  • Integrate AI and generative tools to optimize the production pipeline

Requirements Snapshot

  • Degree in motion design or a strong portfolio demonstrating equivalent skills
  • At least two years of professional experience in 3D and motion design
  • Proven ability to work with and optimize engineering CAD data
  • Proficiency in Blender Cinema 4D After Effects and Premiere
  • Fluent English communication skills with German as a preferred asset

Expected Impact

You will be responsible for how the world perceives the company's humanoid robots by creating almost all external-facing visual content. Your work will bridge the gap between complex engineering and accessible high-fidelity visual storytelling for customers investors and the public.

Job Description

We build humanoid systems: full stack, from hardware and electronics to software and manufacturing, all in-house in Berlin.

At Cell Labs, we push the boundary of what robotics can achieve. Our goal is clear: to build systems that empower humans, not replace them. Our technology is already deployed with industry leading customers and partners. Now, our own product is close to launch.

The quiet phase is over. We are looking for people who want to be here early, take ownership, and help us build what others only talk about.

Location: Berlin (on-site) Start: Asap Employment Type: Full-time, Part-Time, Freelance

Aufgaben

Get CAD ready for rendering: Turn heavy mechanical assemblies from engineering into clean 3D assets that render, animate and run in real time without falling apart. The hardware stands in our workshop, and the next machine is never far behind.

Show what is inside: Exploded views, cutaways and assembly animations that explain the mechanics without a technical drawing, so customers understand the tech behind the product.

Materials that look real: Build shaders for aluminum, stainless steel, glass, rubber, carbon, plastics, displays and LEDs, so a render reads as the actual object rather than as a render. Scenes, materials and rigs stay organized, so the next project does not start from zero.

Motion design in a house style: Titles, typography, transitions, logo animation, and 2D animation for interface elements like animated displays and icons. It should look like us, not like a template pack.

Editing and post: Footage from the workshop and tests, mixed with 3D work, becomes what we use on the website, on social, at trade shows and in investor meetings. Editing, grading, sound, subtitles, and a version that fits each channel.

Put AI to work: You use AI and generative tools (e.g. comfy) where they actually save time, whether that is concepting, cleanup or upscaling. You keep testing what is new, keep what earns a place in the pipeline, and drop the rest.

Qualifikation

Background: A degree in motion design, animation or media design, or a self taught route with a reel that makes the question pointless.

Experience: At least two years of hands on work, whether from an internship, freelance jobs, a studio or your own projects. What the work looks like matters more to us than where it was made.

CAD is not new to you: You have opened engineering data before and know roughly what happens when a heavy assembly meets a render engine.

Reel: Hard surfaces, metal, glass and light. Even one personal project done properly tells us more than ten client jobs you only assisted on.

Tools: Experience in Blender and Cinema 4D, Octane is a plus. After Effects and either Premiere for the cut.

How you work: Hands on and fast to a first version. You get things finished instead of perfect, and you notice when a detail stops being worth the hours.

Languages: Fluent English. Good German is a real plus.

Benefits

Your work is what people see of us: Almost everything the outside world sees of our robots comes out of your hands, and you decide how that looks.

Everything under one roof: Labs, workshop and test rigs are in the same Kreuzberg building. The engineer you need is a walk away, not a ticket.

Room to get better: Paid learning time and a personal budget for it, projects where something is allowed to not work the first time, and support for portfolio work and conference talks as the company becomes known.

Benefits: A benefits package you put together yourself, covering mobility, home setup, health or food. Plus one extra paid day off a year for volunteering or a project you care about.

Send us a link to your work. Best case it includes something you took from CAD data to a finished render, with a note on how. Skip the cover letter.

Process: Intro call -> Portfolio deep-dive -> Half-day on-site visit with a small design exercise -> Offer.

We build robots for everyone, so we want a team that reflects that. We hire on what you can do, and we welcome applications from people who are underrepresented in 3D and motion. If you don't tick every box but think this is your job, apply anyway.
