Job Description

This is what you like to do

VSTEP builds professional simulators used to train ship crews and other maritime professionals around the world. One of our products, NAUTIS Home, is a simulator that users install and run on their own PC at home. It comes with a set of ships, environments, and courses with scenarios..
To keep our users engaged we want to expand the number of scenarios so they can enjoy the software longer. 

If you have a creative mind and a feel for the water, this is your chance to design new maritime scenarios for NAUTIS Home. These can be new situations or variations of existing maritime scenarios. Some of the scenarios might focus more on entertainment, while others are aimed at learning new maritime skills. You will have plenty of room to let your creativity run wild. 

You will be part of our Product Team, and will be working closely with colleagues from the product team, Software Engineering and our 3D artists to bring NAUTIS Home to the next level.

Your daily activities will include:

  • Analyse existing content(vessels, environments, scenarios)

  • Read the user forum or talk to clients to learn what the users want and need

  • Design scenario concepts and turn them into challenging, entertaining scenarios

  • Build your scenarios using our NAUTIS tools (scenario editor and logic editor)

  • Make scenarios ready for release (add metadata, briefing, images, and so on)

  • Share feedback with developers about software and bugs

Is this you?

You are:
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant program like Game Design or something maritime related
  • Looking for an internship or graduation project as part of you education or studies
  • Detail-focused and able to work within constraints
  • Able to create engaging maritime scenarios
  • Not afraid to work in a technical environment 
  • A team player who can also work independently and is easy to communicate with.
  • Located and living in the Netherlands. Specifically in the Rotterdam area.
You have:
  • A creative mind and interest in maritime subjects
  • Strong written and spoken English (this is the language we use internally)
  • Good visualization skills
Nice to have:
  • Nautical background
  • Technical skills to make scenarios in NAUTIS scenario editor and create necessary files for release
    - Version control system (GIT)
    - Able to understand edit XML files
    - Technical know how on what it takes to make interactive content
