Quick Summary

Role Overview

As a Design Engineer at Maple, you will own the development of dashboards, configuration tools, and internal operations interfaces for AI agents. You will bridge the gap between design and engineering to build scalable tools that help restaurants automate their workflows and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build product-facing and internal tools using TypeScript, React, and Tailwind
  • Design intuitive interfaces for customers to manage AI agents and business logic
  • Develop reusable components and maintain the company's emerging design system
  • Prototype new features and test them directly with customers to ship quickly
  • Define the overall approach to UI architecture and visual scaling systems
  • Collaborate closely with founders and engineers to maintain a high-leverage product culture

Requirements Snapshot

  • Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS workflows
  • Proven experience designing and building complex dashboards or configuration UIs
  • Ability to own full features from initial wireframe to production code
  • Systems-thinking mindset focused on building primitives rather than one-off solutions
  • Approximately 4 to 8 years of professional experience in frontend engineering

Expected Impact

You will play a critical role in modeling how real-world businesses operate by building the interfaces that define their workflows and constraints. Your work will enable AI agents to adapt instantly to diverse business needs, directly contributing to the company's mission of reimagining software for the physical world.

Job Description

Hi 👋 I’m Aidan, founder of Maple.

At Maple, we’re building AI agents that work for restaurants. These agents answer calls, take orders, book appointments, and handle real customer interactions over natural voice.

But our bigger mission goes deeper: we’re building automated ontologies that model how businesses actually operate — their services, workflows, constraints, and language — so our agents can adapt to them instantly. We meet businesses where they are, not where software wants them to be.

We have many customers, strong revenue growth, years of runway, and backing from world-class investors. I’ll share more once we meet.

About the role

As a Design Engineer, you’ll be at the center of how we build products. You’ll own entire surfaces of the product: dashboards, config tools, real-time monitoring, internal ops UIs. You’ll prototype new ideas and bring structure to chaos, designing tools that scale across dozens of verticals with minimal friction.

We work in person, 5 days a week in our NYC office. Collaboration here is fast, noisy (in the best way), and high-trust. We move quickly, break things intentionally, and fix them just as fast.

What you’ll do

  • Build product-facing and internal tools using TypeScript, React, and Tailwind

  • Design and implement intuitive ways for customers to manage AI agents and define business logic

  • Develop reusable components and own our emerging design system

  • Prototype new features, test them with customers, and ship fast

  • Help define our approach to UI architecture, scaling, and visual systems

  • Work closely with our founders, engineers, and customers

  • Contribute to a product culture that values clarity, speed, and leverage

What we’re looking for

  • Strong experience in React, TypeScript, CSS, and modern frontend workflows

  • Product taste: you know when something feels right and why

  • Systems thinking: you like building primitives, not one-offs

  • Experience designing and building tools, dashboards, and/or configuration UIs

  • Comfortable owning full features from wireframe to code

  • Bonus: experience with Figma, LLMs, conversational interfaces, or backend TypeScript

  • 4–8+ years experience preferred, but we’re flexible for the right person

How we work

  • We optimize for leverage. That means great internal tooling, fast CI/CD, and code that scales across many customer types

  • We believe in deep ownership. Engineers here talk to users, design features, and ship fast

  • We value clarity over process. You’ll spend most of your day building, not waiting on decisions

  • We move in person. We’re a tight-knit team that moves fast and solves problems together

What we offer

  • Competitive salary + meaningful equity

  • A real product with real usage and growing revenue

  • Strong In-person culture, fast feedback loops, and zero bureaucracy

  • A small team that feels like a founding team

  • Full health, dental, vision, 401k, life insurance, and unlimited PTO

  • Tools budget, coffee budget, whatever-you-need-to-be-great budget

Want to help reimagine how software works for real-world businesses? Let’s talk.
