Company and Product Context
Our client builds mobile and cloud software for field teams in restoration, remodeling, and claims.
The product helps professionals capture site conditions, create accurate floor plans, document photos, notes, forms, and checklists, generate reports, and turn onsite data into scopes and estimates that office teams and stakeholders can act on.
This is operational B2B design work involving physical spaces, time pressure, incomplete information, and handoffs between field and office teams. The goal is to make complex workflows feel clear, reliable, and fast.
Team and Operating Model
You will join a small design team working closely with Product and Engineering across mobile and web.
There is no separate research team, so designers directly own discovery. You will observe customers in real working environments, synthesize evidence, and bring those insights into product decisions.
Product owns the initial business problem and requirements. You help refine the user problem, explore directions, validate the solution, and stay close to implementation through handoff.
The role is remote within Germany. Regular office attendance is not expected. Customer travel happens approximately once per month, primarily within Germany.
The Role
This is a high autonomy individual contributor Product Designer role focused on making connected field and office workflows clearer, faster, and easier to trust.
You will observe professional users, identify workflow details that cannot be understood from analytics or internal assumptions, and translate that evidence into product direction.
Your work will include interaction models, prototypes, design system contributions, and implementation ready decisions across iOS, Android, and web.
The role suits a designer who wants direct user proximity, meaningful product ownership, and the opportunity to see decisions through to observable customer impact.
Role Fit
3 sections
The Product Challenge
The product connects people working in the field with office teams, project managers, and other stakeholders who depend on accurate site information.
These groups use the product differently and do not always share the same context, vocabulary, or mental model.
Your challenge is to make these connected workflows intuitive across mobile and web. You will design for physical working environments where speed, accuracy, clarity, and ease of use matter more than visual novelty.
What Success Looks Like
You will be successful when:
- Customer observations influence meaningful product decisions.
- Field and office workflows become clearer and more connected.
- Complex requirements become coherent, testable product directions.
- Shipped solutions create measurable or observable customer outcomes.
- Product and Engineering understand the evidence and reasoning behind design decisions.
- You contribute useful patterns and components to the existing design system.
- You become a trusted and accountable design partner within the product team.
How We Will Evaluate You
1. Field Customer Discovery
You independently choose and run research appropriate to the problem.
You observe customers in their real working environment, uncover behaviour that could not have been predicted from a desk, and allow that evidence to change the solution.
You communicate the customer story clearly across Design, Product, Engineering, and the wider company.
2. Systems Thinking
You understand how users, workflows, information, platforms, and product components connect.
You can simplify complex operational products without losing important context. You know when to reuse an existing pattern, when to adapt it, and when something genuinely new is needed.
3. Product and Platform Craft
You have strong UX, interaction, and visual design foundations across iOS, Android, and web.
You understand iOS Human Interface Guidelines, Android Material, and web platform conventions. You can explain which patterns should remain consistent and where the device or working context requires a different interaction.
You have designed mobile products used in real working environments. Your visual decisions support usability and customer outcomes rather than aesthetic polish.
You have also worked with and contributed to an existing design system.
4. Outcome Driven Solution Ownership
You can move independently from an initial problem statement to a recommended and validated solution.
You explore alternatives, take a position, define success with Product and Engineering, negotiate scope, and remain involved through implementation.
You can explain what changed for the customer or business, not only what screens or deliverables you produced.
5. Collaborative Delivery
You involve people early and share work before it feels finished.
You make alternatives and reasoning visible, respond constructively to critique, and work closely with Product and Engineering throughout implementation.
You want to remain close to one product long enough to see decisions through, learn from customers, and improve what was shipped.

- Be willing to travel to customer sites approximately once per month, primarily within Germany.
- Independently run discovery and design from an initial problem through handoff.
- Show experience with complex digital products or workflows.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of iOS, Android, and web platform conventions, including cross platform design tradeoffs.
- Have worked with and contributed to an existing design system.
- Already use AI for research or synthesis and be open to AI assisted exploration and prototyping.
- Be comfortable sharing unfinished work and receiving critique.
Experience Level
This is a senior individual contributor role with high autonomy, direct customer access, and meaningful product ownership.
The right person can operate independently, shape ambiguous product problems, and influence product direction without needing intensive daily mentorship.
Growth comes through deeper discovery practice, stronger systems thinking, clearer collaboration, and visible impact on shipped product decisions.
Useful Background
Relevant experience may include:
- B2B SaaS for field workers or technical operators.
- Field service, construction, energy, logistics, restoration, inspection, claims, or industrial products.
- Products involving several personas with connected or conflicting needs.
- Measurable improvements in adoption, accuracy, completion, efficiency, or reduced rework.
- Sustained ownership of a product through implementation and iteration.
Experience with spatial products, mapping, imaging, augmented reality, 3D, or digital twins is useful, but it is not a primary requirement.
Design Systems
You do not need to have created or owned a design system.
You should have worked with an existing system and contributed components, patterns, or improvements.
AI in Your Workflow
You should already use AI for research or synthesis and be open to AI assisted exploration and prototyping.
We do not require a particular tool. Coded prototypes and advanced agent workflows are welcome but not required.
Human judgment and authorship must remain visible in the final work.
What To Show Us
Please share one or two concrete examples that help us understand:
- How you observed or worked directly with customers.
- What you discovered that you could not have learned from a desk.
- How that evidence changed the product direction.
- How you handled a complex workflow or system.
- What you personally owned.
- How you worked with Product and Engineering.
- What changed for the customer or business.
A statement such as “conducted user research” is not enough without a concrete example.
