The Technology Consulting business line is the technology and operations’ arm of the Novaspace group. It has more than 50 customers in developed and emerging space markets, in all regions of the world and across the space ecosystem, including satellite operators, governmental and international organizations (Space agencies, Defense agencies, regulatory bodies, etc.), financial institutions (private banks, commercial banks, private equity funds, etc.) and insurance brokers and insurance companies.
Novaspace Technology has developed expertise and know-how around a portfolio of services and capabilities covering the complete lifecycle of a space project, from feasibility studies and project development to operations and training support.
 
We are looking for a motivated Senior Consultant - Satcom Payload Designer to join our team in Toulouse to support clients in technical consulting projects on future & current Satcom mainly for concept analysis (early-stage definition of Satcom payloads by generating and assessing innovative design concepts), system feasibility analysis (generation, trade-off & comparison of several preliminary communication system high level design) and system Procurement (generation/assessment of Request for Proposal documents, organization & performance of the tender & final negotiation).

Primary role and responsibilities

  • Management of Satcom consulting project (size & complexity depending on the experience of the candidate), including customer interface & reporting; task organization (WBS), budget & schedule generation & tracking; team organization & management
  • End to End Engineering of Satellite Communication System to support customer in designing, sizing, optimization, specification, assessment of satellite communication systems.
This includes:
  • Transformation of Customer’s need into key parameters driving the Communication System Design, production and justification of several Communication Payload preliminary design answering customer’s requirements, underlining solutions/recommendation/adjustments when trade off (cost/time/complexity) are necessary, assessment of costs of a Communication System (CAPEX, OPEX) and performance of cost trade-offs,
  • Generation of simulations to asses/demonstrate performance/limitation/uses cases
  • Production of payload technical analysis (performance & capacity assessment, assessment of communication chain impairments, e.g. filtering, linearity, intermodulation etc., assessment of intersystem and intra-system interference, payload test result prediction & assessment, redundancy schemes assessment, …
  • Production & assessment of Payload system specification (payload technical exhibit of satellite procurement contract)
  • Critical review & comparative evaluation of the payload part of industrial proposal to an RFP

Desired skills & experience

  • MSc in space engineering with a major preferably in telecommunications
  • At least 7 years of practical industry experience in satellite communications field including at least 3 years of 7 years of practical industry experience in satellite communications field including :at least 3 years of proven practical experience in supporting communication satellite bid as Payload Engineer, designing complex payload system (including VHTS, onboard processing, software defined satellites, passive and active antenna systems) with deep understanding of the key performance parameters driving the design /trade-offs in operational scenarios
  • Proven ability to appreciate the commercial and operational requirements in order to define the best compromise between price, performance and operational aspects (complexity, easy implementation, development risks and implementation costs).
  • Proven ability to address technical problems using the most efficient means, including mathematical analysis, computer simulation and experimentation. You will be expected to maintain a high level of computer literacy (python, matlab, etc..)
  • You are well organized and autonomous to manage consulting projects (including finance, schedules, consulting team and customer relations) in close cooperation with your leader (using collaborative and simple project management tools).
  • Great team spirit and rigor.
  • Ability to summarize efficiently complex information to a short presentation or produce a single intelligible content from multiple sources.
  • Proficiency in writing reports and presentations with a high level of quality.
  • Good presentation and communication skills, able to present content with ease in front of an audience, to interface smoothly with other Novaspace team member and customers, from different cultures and background.
  • Ability to travel, as you will be able to work at our clients' sites or operations anywhere in the world: Europe, Middle East, Asia, the Americas, etc
