Job Description

About Flicks

Flicks is a content discovery platform used by over 14 million Australians and New Zealanders each year. We bring together nationwide cinema showtimes, streaming listings, and editorial recommendations into one beautiful, award-winning product (website and app).

We are based in Auckland and are owned by Vista Group International. Our mission: be the world’s best content assistant – helping people find great movies and shows, and make sense of today’s overwhelming screen content landscape.

Principal Objectives

We’re looking for a Product / UX Designer to make Flicks awesome, beautiful, intuitive, and joyful to use. In this role, you’ll bring ideas to life – crafting elegant, user-centred experiences across both web and app that help people discover the movies and shows they’ll love.

You’ll take charge of design execution: leading UX thinking, raising the quality bar, and partnering closely with product and engineering to shape what we build next. You’ll champion user needs through research, feedback, data, and intuition – spotting opportunities, refining flows, and driving meaningful product improvements. As we push further into an AI-driven future, you’ll also help drive Flicks toward smarter, more personalised experiences.

This is a genuinely hands-on role in a small, tight-knit team. You’ll be able to influence our products direction. You’ll also spend plenty of time exploring flows, refining UI, creating components, and shipping thoughtful design work.

Key Responsibilities:

Product

  • Lead the end-to-end design of user journeys across web and app.
  • Ensure the experience is seamless, fast, and visually cohesive.
  • Identify and prioritise UX improvements based on feedback and analytics.

Design & UX Execution

  • Create and refine wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Maintain and evolve Flicks’ design system for clarity and consistency.
  • Collaborate with developers to bring designs to life with precision and polish – overseeing its execution and quality.

Product Collaboration

  • Partner with the product team to explore new ideas and define new features.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps with a focus on usability, personalisation and engagement.
  • Balance creative ambition with product realities — solving problems with elegance and intent.
  • From time to time, you’ll also have the chance to contribute to marketing design needs.
  • Strong UX/UI design background (5+ years experience)
  • Proficient in Figma
  • Passion for film, design, and crafting great user experiences
  • Thinks deeply about user needs and behaviours - not just what looks good, but what solves real problems
  • Skilled at turning abstract ideas and user insights into clear product flows
  • Creative and analytical thinking, informed by data, feedback, and intuition.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a small, nimble team, testing, iterating, and improving constantly.

We have a range of benefits that include:

  • Outstanding flexibility to support a healthy work-life balance - including 4.5 working days a week
  • Hybrid working
  • Medical and Life insurance
  • Volunteer day, enhanced paid parental leave and wellness benefits
  • Strong mentoring & career development focus
  • Fun team events including the Vista Innovation Cup
