Quick Summary

Role Overview

Matter Intelligence is seeking a Product Designer to transform complex physical-world data into clear and actionable interfaces. You will work with the Product Intelligence team to shape workflows and design systems for advanced sensing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead user research and discovery with customers and domain experts
  • Translate complex analytical capabilities into clear information architecture
  • Create prototypes to guide product and engineering decisions
  • Partner with engineering through implementation and quality review
  • Build and maintain reusable design patterns and systems
  • Shape workflows for products that turn sensing data into operational decisions

Requirements Snapshot

  • Experience designing data-rich software or complex professional workflows
  • Strong interaction and information architecture skills
  • Ability to turn ambiguous problems into simple product concepts
  • Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams
  • Eligibility to meet ITAR requirements for U.S. export regulations

Expected Impact

You will enable customers to understand and act on complex intelligence without unnecessary complexity by validating product concepts early. Your work will result in a coherent set of design patterns that improves speed and consistency across the entire product surface. Ultimately, you will bridge the gap between high-dimensional sensing data and effective operational decision-making.

Job Description

About Matter Intelligence

Welcome to Matter, where we are building the future of vision AI: pairing a world-first sensor that sees molecular chemistry, temperature, and 3D shape with a Large World Model that will be the most powerful intelligence engine for the physical world. This system doesn't just see what something looks like; it understands everything from a single pixel. We call this Superintelligent Vision.

Our team has delivered technologies to Mars for NASA/JPL, designed advanced sensors for U.S. Defense, and frontier artificial intelligence systems. We are now building the next generation of space- and airborne-based sensing systems.

About the Role

Matter is hiring a Product Designer to make complex physical-world intelligence clear, useful, and actionable for customers. Working with the Product Intelligence team and Ignacio Cases Martin, this role will shape workflows, interfaces, prototypes, and design systems for products that turn high-dimensional sensing data into operational decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead user research and workflow discovery with customers, product leaders, engineers, and domain experts.

  • Translate complex data and analytical capabilities into clear information architecture, interactions, and interfaces.

  • Create prototypes and test concepts early enough to guide product and engineering decisions.

  • Partner closely with product and engineering through implementation, iteration, and quality review.

  • Build and maintain reusable design patterns and a coherent design system as the product surface expands.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience designing data-rich software products or complex professional workflows.

  • Strong interaction, interface, information-architecture, prototyping, and visual-design skills.

  • Ability to turn ambiguous customer problems and technical constraints into simple, testable product concepts.

  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach to working with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams.

Preferred

  • Experience with geospatial, industrial, scientific, analytical, AI-assisted, or operational decision products.

  • Experience designing for expert users who work with maps, imagery, time series, alerts, or complex datasets.

  • Experience contributing to or establishing a design system in an early-stage product organization.

What Success Looks Like

  • Customers can understand and act on Matter's intelligence without unnecessary complexity.

  • Product concepts are validated early and move into implementation with clear interaction and visual specifications.

  • The product develops a coherent set of patterns that improves speed and consistency across new workflows.

Location

This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires onsite work.

ITAR Requirements

To comply with U.S. export regulations, applicants must be one of the following:

  • A U.S. citizen or national

  • A lawful permanent resident (green card holder)

  • Eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State

Employee Offerings and Benefits

At Matter, we believe in rewarding high performance and providing the support you need to thrive. Our compensation and benefits package includes:

  • Competitive compensation based on experience

  • Early-stage equity package

  • 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Opportunity to work on novel sensing, data, and AI systems with real-world deployment paths to the largest industries in the world

Matter Intelligence is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds who can raise the ambition and performance of the team.
