Quick Summary

Role Overview

This role involves designing and building a web-based game that translates the geometry of fundamental physics into a playful interactive experience. You will collaborate to create a browser-based MVP for secondary school students using patterns, color, and motion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the interaction concept alongside the project lead
  • Build a working browser-based MVP
  • Create a home screen displaying the 4D physics structure
  • Develop one or two playable interactive modules
  • Ensure the application runs on laptops and tablets without installation
  • Deliver the completed project by the late November deadline

Requirements Snapshot

  • Background in game design with coding skills or design-focused development
  • Experience with browser-based interactive tools like Three.js or Unity
  • Ability to start immediately and meet the November timeline
  • Curiosity about physics without requiring prior academic knowledge
  • Status as a freelancer or studio capable of issuing invoices

Expected Impact

The developer will create an educational tool that helps students understand complex physics through visual patterns rather than equations. This project will be tested in Berlin workshops to inspire interest in the fundamental structure of the universe.

Job Description

I'm building a small web-based game about the knowledge geometry of physics, and I'm looking for someone who can both design it and build it.

The project: PlanckPlay (planckplay.de) turns the structure of fundamental physics into playable geometry. Sixteen areas/theories of physics, from Newtonian mechanics to black holes, fit together as a single four-dimensional shape. We already have a 3D-printed puzzle, a light sculpture and two browser-based 4D explorers. Now we want a playful web experience for secondary school students (12–17) that teaches through pattern, colour, sound and motion instead of equations. It will be tested with school classes in Berlin workshops. The project is based at the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

What you'll do:– Develop the interaction concept together with me (I bring the physics and the learning goals)– Build a working browser MVP: a home screen showing the 4D structure, plus one or two playable modules– Make it run on laptops and tablets with no installation

Who I'm looking for:– A game designer who codes, or a developer with a strong sense for design– Experience with browser-based interactive work (e.g. JavaScript, Three.js/WebGL, p5.js, Unity WebGL or Godot web export)– Available to start right away and deliver by late November 2026– No physics background needed, just curiosity– Freelancers, small studios, advanced students and recent graduates are all welcome (you'll need to be able to send an invoice)

Budget: €4,000–5,000 fixed fee, depending on experience and scope.

To apply, email contact@planckplay.de by Monday, 19 October with:– Your portfolio, including the 2–3 projects closest to this one– Your availability between now and the end of November– A few lines on how you'd approach it

Please share, or tag someone who might be a good fit.
