Original Job Description

Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser, and Pocket, a service for keeping up with the best content online. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role:

Mozilla’s New Product group is a fast-paced organization of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial-minded individuals. We build new products from the ground up, explore methods of investment and acquisition, and experiment quickly to solve exciting problems for people that can form the basis of new Mozilla businesses.

As a Senior Staff Product Designer, you will be one of the first designers shaping 0→1 products, often working with just one PM and one engineer to validate concepts, test hypotheses, and build toward launch.

You should be comfortable designing across all stages of the early product lifecycle from discovery through launch and initial growth. We are looking for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial setting, has startup experience and a track record of delivering, and can navigate the unique challenges of building 0 to 1 products.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the journey: Lead design from discovery through launch, including research, brand, flows, and high-fidelity UI.
  • Prototype with AI and code: Use AI tools, CSS debugging, and component libraries (React) to quickly validate ideas.
  • Bridge disciplines: Collaborate daily with Product and Engineering to scope, ticket, QA, and ship.
  • System thinking: Create state diagrams, flows, and design patterns that scale beyond a single feature.
  • Mentor: Raise the bar for design craft across Mozilla by coaching other designers and contributing to shared practices.

What you’ll bring:

  • 7+ years building 0→1 products in startup-like settings, with a portfolio showing shipped products, not just concepts.
  • Evidence of shipping designs that balance user needs, technical feasibility, and business outcomes.
  • Fluency with AI-driven prototyping and modern design systems; comfort editing CSS or evaluating React components.
  • Strong communicator able to frame design tradeoffs clearly to PMs and engineers.
  • Resilient and gritty: you iterate quickly, persevere through ambiguity, and maintain quality at speed.
  • You can work efficiently with a geographically distributed team.
  • Commitment to our values:
    • Welcoming differences
    • Being relationship-minded
    • Practicing responsible participation
    • Having grit

Bonus:

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Experience designing for multiple platforms (web, mobile, desktop).
  • Comfort with designing interfaces that enable an AI future
  • Experience running design QA and audits pre-launch
  • Track record of mentoring designers into more senior roles

What you’ll get:

  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
  • Country specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday
  • One-time home office stipend
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
  • Considerable paid parental leave
  • Employee referral bonus program
  • Other benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc.varies by country)
