Electrical Design Engineer

Job Description

What will you be doing? 

We are seeking an Electrical Design engineer to support an exciting programme in the development of the General Logistics Vehicle. Based in Portsmouth, you will contribute to critical projects within the land-based defence sector, designing and supporting electrical harness systems for advanced vehicle platforms.

This role offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in Harnware while working on projects that directly impact operational capability.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

• Design and develop wiring harnesses for defence vehicles using Harnware.
• Produce and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation in line with project requirements.
• Support vehicle engineering projects through harness integration, installation, and validation activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems, mechanical, and production engineers, to ensure successful project delivery.
• Apply Defence Standards (61-5) to ensure compliance with industry and customer requirements.
• Provide technical input throughout the design lifecycle, from concept through to production and in-service support.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing harness design processes and documentation practices.

Qualifications

Essential:

• Experience working with Defence Standard 61-5.
• Ability to create and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Background in automotive, aerospace, or defence environments.
• Eligible for UK security clearance.

Desirable:

• Proven experience with Harnware for harness design.
• Knowledge of harness design for military or specialist vehicles.
• Familiarity with defence engineering practices and standards.
